RESTORATION!

     We have used this (above left) Civil War Era Blacksmith Anvil
to do Wicker Structural Restoration for years!
     WE BEND, FORM, & SHAPE STEEL TO THE APPROPRIATE
SIZE, & SHAPE, & INCORPORIATE THE STEEL WITH THE
WICKER STRUCTURAL PIECES IN THE FRAME UNDERNEATH,
& WRAP THEM WITH THE APPROPRIATE WICKER WRAPPINGS!
     And you would absolutely never ever in your wildest imagination
know the restoration has been done this way unless I explained to
you HOW, & WHY the restoration was done in this way!
     But one thing for sure, IT'S MAGICAL!

* Which Paint To Use...Test First before you purchase paint supplies etc.!
"To find out whether old paint is oil or latex, scrub a small area with
a strong solution of household detergent. Rinse the area with fresh water
and towel dry. Then, rub a cotton ball soaked in alcohol over the cleaned
area. If the paint comes off it's latex. If it doesn't it's oil base. For
oil base paint, an oil primer is necessary before repainting with oil or latex."

Begin by "feeding the exposed wood" on the wicker sofa before
you cover it up again!!!

Tools you will need to do a partial repair on a wicker sofa!!!
Caning Awl

          Pliers
          Tack Hammer
          Nails for wicker repair Size: Wire Nails 1/2 x 20
          Automotive Electrical Wire Ties

     For structural spokes (verticals) use 3/32 kraft brown soft
wire rush!!!
     *Reason: So you can bend the kraft brown soft wire rush
to the shape of the wicker sofa!!!
     For weavers (horizontal) use Fibre Wicker .065"!!!
     Or weavers (choose) #2 Round Reed!!!

progress of the dogs' damaged wicker sofa restoration in progress which
is always very, very time consuming!!!

THE PHOTO ABOVE shows the steps for stretching the lower back
of this example wicker sofa back into its original shape!!!

First de nail the gimp at the bottom of the wicker sofa only in the area
to be stretched back into its original shape!!!

     For structural spokes (verticals) use 3/32 kraft brown rush (again)
along the bottom section of this sofa where it is stretched out of shape
so that you can use these new spokes to help you stretch the bottom
section of this wicker sofa back into its original shape!!!
     NOTE: Do not remove any of the old spokes!!! Simply place the
new spokes besides the old ones!!! Do not remove the new spokes either
after you install them in place!!!
     Use your awl to help you complete this step!!!

The back of this dogs' damaged wicker sofa photographic
illustration above was heavily damaged by the dogs' which
required stretching the bottom of the wicker sofa back into its
original shape!!!

This was accomplished by very carefully removing the gimp, adding
vertical spokes to the bottom of the dogs' damaged wicker sofa so
the bottom back vertical spokes can be used very, very carefully to
stretch its dogs' damaged wicker back into it original shape without
further damaging the dogs' damaged wicker sofa back when you
stretch its dogs' damaged wicker back into its original shape!!!

Now that you have stretched the wicker back into its original shape
again on the example wicker sofa simply re tack the gimp back into
place, and you have completed this type of repair on this example
wicker sofa!!!

As stated, & shown in the photo illustration above always leave your
wicker restoration strands in longer lengths than you need for the
restoration so that any adjustments which need to be made can very
easily be made!!!
It is much, much easier to do this step than taking a wicker restoration
section completely apart to correct a mistake!!!
