Recently I read a very interesting paragraph
about how, & where to strip off old chairs, & it will NEVER be in my shop
again due to inhaling
dust, mildew, etc. from an old chair(s) because of where, & how they may have been stored!
It will be done outside of my shop with maximum ventilation, & before I bring the chair caning, or seat weaving re-
storation into my shop to restore!
Coming from an attic, an
old barn, a basement, or an out building may cause health problems which I did not bargain for
when
I took in this or that chair caning or seat weaving restoration to do!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Dust Mask, & Gloves will be used ALWAYS during the strip off of old chairs etc.! |

8 DAY OF REST!!!
* ON SAT UR DAY FEBRUARY 19, 2010 (SHINE
SHINE ON MY
SHOULDER) 2011 @ 8:51 AM EST.
* With a Breakfast
of Oatmeal Fuel behind me, & the dreaded
MEDS taken as a result of all the "Side Effects"
I am going to
simply "Stop the Chair Caning, & Seat Weaving Music", & take a
much needed "Day of Rest" off from a very hectic week of Chair
Caning, & Seat
Weaving Labors'!!!
* But while I am taking my much needed "Day
of Rest" off my
"Old Faithful" "Machine Cane Soaker" is silently "Soaking"
an
eighteen inch piece of "Machine Cane" to be used in replacing a
damaged piece of
"Machine Cane" in a Client's Rocking Chair which
was brought in for repair Thurs day afternoon!!!
* And now an "IMPORTANT NOTE" about "WHY" we use
"RUBBER END CAPS" on our "MACHINE CANE SOAKERS"!!! Gluing
on a "PLASTIC" END CAP makes the "MACHINE CANE SOAKER"
more difficult
to throughly clean; but when we use "RUBBER END
CAPS" we can throughly clean our "MACHINE
CANE SOAKERS" be
cause we can simply remove the "RUBBER END CAPS" and may
elimate any chance of leaving disease carrying "MILDEW, & MOLD"
in
our "Home Based Business" or "Shop"!!!

* FRIDAY PICK UP 4 CHAIRS, & MATERIAL!!!
* ON FRY DAY
FEBRUARY 18, ( BEAUTIFUL SUNNY DAY)
2011 @ 5:27 PM EST.
* Burning
as little Day Light as possible was my objective this
morning as we loaded Furniture Moving Rugs for
the pick up of a
load of Chairs in Ashland, Virginia three (3) cities away North of
Colonial Heights,
Virginia!!!
* In Richmond, Virginia we stopped at "Woodcraft" long enough
to pick up a piece of "Machine Cane" , & a few feet of "Spline"
for
a "Machine Cane" Chair we will do over the week-end!!!
* When we
arrived in Ashland, Virginia after having our usual
Breakfasts' of Oatmeal Fuel, & Cherrios we had a pleasant
sur-
prise of eight (8) Chairs to pick up of which six (6) were early
Hitchcock Rush Bottom
Chairs, A "Hand Cane" Lincoln Rocker, and
another "Hand Cane Chair!!! And
more work to pick up in that area
when we deliver the eight (8) Chair when completed in a few weeks!!!
* And we did run into the beginning of the dreaded four (4)
o'clock Friday
afternoon "Big City" "Rush Hour" traffic!!! Hopefully
in the near future we
will do less, & less of this!!
* But all in all it was a terrific "Fry day"
which allowed us to
visit with old Antique Shop Owner Friends' whom have sent us a
lot
of work through the years!!!

* Well, I have gotten
an early start ths morning on my day, &
have taken the required Meds, & have had my usual Breakfast of
Oatmeal Fuel, & Fruit, & will plan my day around my "Teaching"
today!!!
* Today at three (3) o'clock EST this afternoon I will begin a
"NEW" Chapter in my "Chair
Caning, & Seat Weaving Career which
will be "Teaching" a "Student" "How To"
Hand Cane" a Chair and
what ever else they want to learn about "Chair Caning, & Seat
Weaving which I have not done in literally years so it will be both
a "Challenge", & "Interesting"
at the same time!!!
* And yes I'm looking forward to "Teaching"
today, & depending
on "How it Goes" I just may do more "Teaching" "Chair
Caning, Seat
Weaving" in the future!!!
* So part of my day
will be taken up by finishing a "Rush"
Bottom Chair, & finishing the repair on the Child's Chair,
& then
I will take a huge detour from my usual routine, & "Teach"!!

* REPAIRS ON SCHEDULE!!!
* OM WINDS DAY FEBRUARY 16, (RESTLESS IN COLONIAL
HEIGHTS, VIRGINIA) 2011 @ 12:30 AM EST.
* Yesterday we repaired
a "Hand Cane" Chair, glued up a Child's
Rocker, picked up a "Hand Caned" Rocking
Chair, & cleaned out
the "Hand Cane" in preperation for "Hand Caning", & "Matched"
the
finish on the "Hand Cane" Rocking Chaor, & then called it a day!!!
* Today we will un clamp the Chairs', & make some parts for
the Adult & Child's Rocking Chairs', &
I will finally be winding down
my "Catch up" work from "Open Heart Surgery" in November of
2010, & call it a wrap where my "Chair Caning, & Seat Weaving
Career is concerned,
& DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT; BUT I
SIMPLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THAT IS YET!!!
* And "Country Seat Weavers' will continue to be in business
with a "NEW" Craftsman, with more
than "Qualified Hands" doing all
of the "Caning', & Weaving"!!!
* And I will not be lost as far as all of this change is con-
cerned it will just be a "NEW" adventure
for me, & yes I am really
lookng forward to it in a few days at long last!!!
* Today I will be "Hand": Stripping the Child's Rocker in
preperation for refinishing!!!!
And absolutely "NO STEEL WOOL"
will be used because that really does get into the grain
of the
wood, & literally ruins the refinishing of any piece of furniture!!!
* Well, it's time again to put this "Post" to rest, & get some
rest until the Middle of the Week
makes its' appearance with the
rising of the Sun in the morning!!! And...
* With Meds taken this morning, & my Oatmeal Breakfast con-
sumed my day has begun, & I'll be more than
happy to finish up
my very last "Rush" Bottom Chair today, & deliver it, & then pick
up
my very last three (3) "Rush" Bottom Chairs' to do before calling
it a day as promised
when my "Back Log" of work has been com-
pleted due to my "Open Heart Surgery" in November
of 2010!!!
* Began working on the "Curved" Machine Cane Chair
Tutorial
today, & I should have it finished within a few days!!! This is the
Method which I have found the easiest to do when doing "Curved"
Machine Cane Chairs'!!!
* Child's Rocking Chair Part's "Made",
& "Shaped" to fit chair!!!
Now that we've had all of that Fun" we're glad it's over!!!

here in the East, & I
have just finished my Oatmeal Fuel, taken my Meds like a good
little
boy for today!!!
* And then I will begin my Chair Caning, & Seat Weaving
Day
by beginning the restoration on a "Hand Cane" Chair from the
Civil War Period
to be used by my "Student" to begin learning "How
To" "Hand Cane"
a Chair this coming Thursday afternoon!!!
* Should be both a "Challenge",
& very "Interesting" to be
"Teaching" again after all of the years!!!
They will not only be taught "How To" Hand Cane" a "Hand
Cane" Chair Bottom with "No" Curves in it: but be shown "How To"
"Hand
Cane" a Chair with "Curves" in the Chair Back, or Bottom,
a "Lincoln Rocker"
to be exact, so that they will be able to "Hand
Cane" any "Hand Cane" Chair that comes
into their "Home Based
Business"!!!
* IT"S A MASTER CHAIR CANING, & SEAT WEAVING
CLASS CHAIR CANERS', & SEAT WEAVERS'!!!
* After we finish the restoration on the "Hand Cane" Chair
we will then "Make" some parts for a "Child's" Rocker, & then an
Adult Rocker
which will both be getting "Binder Cane" Chair Bottoms
because that's what they originally had in them!!!
* Got two (2) Phone Calls today which will result in a half a
dozen Chairs to pick up, & restore in Central Virginia!!! One Phone
Call came in
from from Ashland, Vrginia, & the other Phone Call
came in from Petersburg, Virginia in my
own back yard!!! One
is more than fifty (50) miles one way from my shop door due
to
the reputation "Country Seat Weavers'" has for always giving
"Clients'"
"Museum Quality" work in Chair Caning, & Seat
Weaving" regardless of whether it is
"Hand Cane", "Rush", "Splint
"Wicker", "Furniture Repair"
or "Furniture Refinishing"!!!
* And this is the reputation the "NEW"
Craftsman has in-
herited from the really old Craftsman whom previously did "ALMOST"
ALL"
of the work for "Country Seat Weavers'" due to teaching
the "NEW" Craftsman "ALL"
of the "Chair Caning, & Seat Weav-
ing Tricks whom has now taken over "Country Seat Weavers'"!!!

Chairs parts'!!! Part of Chair Caning is having the Woodworking
Skills to "Make" Chair parts when necessary for a Chair Caning,
or Seat Weaving Project
if you are a complete Chair Caning, &
Seat Weaving Craftsman!!! And you need to also have Wood
Species Knowledge to select the "Correct" Wood for the project!!!
And you need to also
have "Refinishing" Skills to "Color Match"
the "Finish" on your repair!!!
And let us not forget Wood Lathe
Turning Skills!!!
* Today I will begin
the repair on a Child's Rocking Chair,
& Replace the Dowel on a "Hand Cane" Chair from
the "Civil War"
period which will be my personal "Hand Cane Chair" when I finish
the restoration!!! It's "Walnut'!!!
* And today I will go to Petersburg,
Virginia, & visit one of
my "Favorite" Junk Shops' "THE TRADING POST", &
begin look-
ing for a "Picture Frame" from the nineteen forties (1940's) to
frame my
"Government Issued" "Birth Certificate" from World
War Two (2)!!! It's a really neat "Birth
Certificate" I think!!!
* And of course I will finish the "Rush"
Bottom Chair I have
been working on the past few days, & get it delivered, & pick
up three
(3) more "Rush" Bottom Chairs' to do then the "NEW"
Craftsman at "Country Seat Weavers"
will be doing the "Rush"
Bottom Chair Bottoms' after I finish my "Back Log" from "Open
Heart Surgery", & do "Rush" Bottom Chairs' "Never More"!!!
* Well, it's bed time again so until after the crack of dawn,
& Breakfast I will put this "Post"
to rest until after nineish in
the morning!!!
* My Oatmeal Breakfast
is over, & the Meds have been taken,
& its time to get dressed,& do one of the things I love

that's to browse through "Junk" shops looking for "One of a Kind"

Chairs' left to do, & then I can turn my attention to a really cute
Child's Rocker which will have
a Binder Cane Chair Bottom put in
it, & then a Porch Rocker with the same!!! And then this will be
the last of the "Catch Up" work to do from November 2010 due
to "Health Crisis" "Open
Heart Surgery"!!!
* And at the "Top" of the week hopefully I
will begin teaching
Chair Caning, & Seat Weaving again, & I just may do this through
the fall
of 2011!!!
* Well, it's 3:20 AM in the early morning so I think I'd
better
get back in bed, & get some more shut eye so until morning...
* It's a little after nine (9) in the morning, & I have consumed
both my Oatmeal Fuel, & Meds, &
getting ready believe it or not to
get back into bed to get forty (40) more winks or so before I
begin pulling, & pushing "Rush" again to finish that one (1) lonely
"Rush" Bottom Chair which remains to be completed in my shop!!!
Then when it's delivered three (3) more "Rush"
Bottom Chairs will
take its place to start the cycle all over again!!!
* Sometime within the xext couple of days I will "Post" the
